Get Started!

As a new cryptocurrency miner you have many choices ahead. Some decisions will be easy to change, others decisions will require more effort and resources to change.

Your first real choice when getting started with cryptocurrency mining is what kind of coin do you want to mine? Your computer hardware will dictate to you which coins you can effectively mine and which coins you can mine ineffectively.

Professor Pie divides coins into three basic groups:

  • ASIC minable coins;
  • GPU minable coins; and
  • CPU minable coins

Here at Coinpie.Academy we focus on GPU and CPU coins. ASIC coins require specialized and expensive hardware. At the academy we want you to help you get started with the hardware you have today. If you purchase new (or used) hardware to improve your mining capabilities the Professor recommends that it be general purpose and not specialized for one specific coin. There are many reasons for this that are discussed as a intermediate level topic.

If you have a GPU, the Professor recommends you start mining a GPU coin, otherwise you’ll want to start using your CPU.

If you want to jump right in, here are the links that have specific instructions for each type of coin:
